“ Balinese Temple” and Why's Bali called the island of the thousand temples?

balinese temple It is not surprising that Bali is called the island of the thousand temples. Everywhere you see a temple.
There are so many temples that the Government does not bother to count them. There are small temples, very small temples with only a very few shrines; there are large temples, very large temples with more than 50 shrines, such as the Temple of Besakih , the mother temple of Bali. There are even lonely shrines on the oddest places where one does not expect them at all. Every family, every compound, every clan or society has a temple; you mention a society or organization and has a temple. In the compound where the family lives there is the family temple. The desa, village  itself must have at least three temples;
Pura Puseh, Pura desa and Pura Dalem
The clan has its own temple. Subak or irrigation organization has a temple, called Pura Subak or Pura Bedugul. Every place where the water to irrigate the rice field is divided has a temple or at least a shrine. Bali has a whole has a temple, the pura Besakih or the mother temple, where every sect and nobility have their own temple.
The balinese are worshippers of ancestors. The family does this in the family temple or house temple. The village does this in the Pura Puseh and all Bali does this in the temple of Besakih.
In South Bali the house temple is always in the North-East corner of the compound in regions South-West of Mount agung. The reason for this is that the top of Mount Agung is the highest spot in Bali and the highest is for God, Ida Sanghyang Widhi.
Because the people should pray towards and God lives on the top of Mount Agung as the highest spot in Bali and Mount Agung happens to lie in the East that is why in South Bali the house temples is in the North-East corner of the compound. In North Bali it is the South-East corner where the house temple is built.
The number of shires in the house temple depends on the wish of the family and it also depends on where the family originally comes from. That is why the visitors in one house temple sees only a few shrines and in another, right next to it, much more. But in a house temple there must be at least two shrines, the “Sakti Kemulam”; the Kemulan is for God and the purified ancestors and the Sakti is for the producing power of God. No matter how poor the compound is the house temple is there. This house temple can be very temporary built only of bamboo, but it can also be very elaborate; the shrines are very nicely carved and painted with gold leaves.
Only the purified dead, that is to say the dead, who have been cremated, join God in the Kemulan shrine in the house temple. With some high caste people the family makes a shrine for every ancestor who in his life had done a great service to the family, and accordingly in the house temple of such a family there are more than one ancestral shrine.
Near the entrance to a compound there is always a guardian shrine in front of or behind it; sometimes there are two shrines in front of it, flaking it. The guardian shrine is for the spirit that has to guard the primes.
As told before a full-fledged village has to have at least three temples:
Pura Puseh, where the founders of the village are worshiped, always lies in the Kaja sphere, towards the mountains, so it lies on the highest spot in the village; Lord Brahma the Creator, resides there.
Pura Desa, the village temple, is built in the center of the village, where Lord Wisnu, the maintainer, is worshipped, because in Pura Desa the activities of the village manifest to maintain the welfare of the village and its inhabitants.  In old societies, Pura Desa always has the Bale Agung, a long wooden building where the villagers monthly come together and sit to discuss village matters. The Bale agung is also the place where the Ngusabha ceremony, a ceremony to honor Dewi Sri, the rice Goddess is held. Pura desa with a Bale agung is called Pura Bale Agung, because not every Pura Desa has a Bale agung.
In the Kelod share, towards the sea, so on the lowest part of the village, lies the cemetery. Near it the pura Dalem is built. This is the right place for Pura Dalem, because it is the temple of death or the temple for the dead. Of course Lord Siwa, the Destroyer, resides and is worshipped there.
The site of the three main temples is in accordance to the deep belief of the Balinese that the mountains are for god; the plains, the center of the country, are for the people and the sea, the lowest part of the country, is for the demonic forces.
Besides the three main temples there is the clan temple, called Pura Ibu, Pura Pemaksan or Pura Panti. Outside the village out in the rice fields, is the Subak temple, maintained by the organization of irrigation and farmers, where naturally Dewi Sri, the Rice Goddess is worshipped.

Peranan Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) Pariwisata di Bali

BAB I

PENDAHULUAN

1.1 Latar Belakang

Akhir - akhir ini pembicaraan tentang sumber daya manusia semakin terdengar. Hal ini tidak lepas dari kesadaran bersama bahwa manusia tidak hanya sebagai penikmat pembangunan. Disamping itu muncul juga kesadaran bahwa pembangunan tidak hanya bisa tergantung pada sumber daya alam. Teknologi sebagai sumber daya pembangunan yang lain memang menjadi penting pula belakangan ini. Namun perkembangan dan pemanfaatan teknologi itu sendiri sangat tergantung pada manusia. Pengalaman-pengalaman negara maju seperti Jerman, Inggris, Perancis, Amerika Serikat, serta negara-negara industri baru seperti Korea Selatan dan Taiwan menunjukkan bahwa pertumbuhan mereka sebagian mereka besar didukung oleh sumber daya manusia yang berkualitas tinggi.

Beberapa ahli sepakat bahwa pembangunan di Indonesia juga sudah semestinya mengandalkan sumber daya manusia. Dengan tersedianya sumber daya yang memadai dalam arti kuantitas dan kualitas, maka tantangan di masa mendatang akan bisa diatasi dengan baik. Para ahli juga sepakat bahwa kualitas sumber daya manusia yang sekarang kita miliki masih perlu ditingkatkan, agar tantangan tersebut bisa teratasi dengan baik. Dalam bidang pariwisata khususnya di Bali sumber daya manusia yang dimiliki masih belum maksimal. Hal ini dipengaruhi oleh dua faktor yaitu faktor dari luar dan factor dari dalam. Selain itu, banyaknya investor asing yang menanamkan sahamnya di Bali membuat masyarakat lokal kurang termotivasi untuk membuka lapangan pekerjaaan.

1.2 Rumusan Masalah

1. Bagaimana partisipasi tenaga kerja pariwisata Bali?

2. Bagaimana etnis tenaga kerja Pariwisata Bali dalam melakukan pekerjaannya?

BAB II

GAMBARAN UMUM

2. 1 Tenaga Kerja Bali

Sumber daya manusia adalah suatu prosedur yang berkelanjutan yang bertujuan untuk memasok suatu organisasi atau perusahaan dengan orang-orang yang tepat untuk ditempatkan pada posisi dan jabatan yang tepat pada saat organisasi memerlukannya. Pada bulan Agustus 2009 jumlah penduduk usia kerja (15 tahun ke atas) di Bali mencapai 2.728.747 orang, dengan angkatan kerja sebanyak 2.123.588 orang. Tingkat partisipasi angkatan kerja (TPAK) di Provinsi Bali pada bulan Agustus 2009 sebesar 77,8 persen, sedikit menurun dibandingkan dengan bulan Agustus tahun sebelumnya yang sebesar 77,9 persen.

2. 2 Angkatan kerja pariwisata Bali

Sumber daya manusia pariwisata merupakan orang-orang yang berkecimpung di usaha jasa pariwisata, tidak hanya mengelola dsumber-daya-manusia2an mengorganisasi tetapi juga memanfaatkannya sebagai mata pencaharian sehari-hari. Secara umum bisa dikatakan kondisi perekonomian Bali pada tahun 2009 lebih baik dibandingkan tahun 2008. Hal ini bisa dilihat dari pertumbuhan ekonomi pada tahun 2009 lebih baik dibandingkan dengan tahun sebelumnya. Pada triwulan III 2009 misalnya, perekonomian Bali tumbuh sebesar 4,17 persen dibandingkan triwulan yang sama tahun sebelumnya. Kondisi ini tentu saja membawa pengaruh positif terhadap kondisi ketenagakerjaan di Bali. Tumbuhnya perekonomian akan meningkatkan kemampuan sektor-sektor ekonomi dalam menyerap tenaga kerja. Tumbuhnya perekonomian Bali mampu menyerap sebanyak 2.057.118 tenaga kerja. Kondisi ini lebih baik dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya dimana tenaga kerja yang terserap oleh kegiatan ekonomi di Bali hanya sebanyak 2.029.730 orang.

Pertumbuhan ekonomi ini juga mampu menurunkan pengangguran sebesar 4,4 persen dari sebanyak 69.548 orang pada bulan Agustus 2008 menjadi 66.470 orang pada bulan yang sama tahun 2009. Kondisi ini bahkan jauh lebih baik dibandingkan pada tahun 2007 dimana pada bulan Agustus 2007 pengangguran di Bali mencapai sebanyak 77.577 orang. Jika dibandingkan dengan potensi tenaga kerja yang ada seperti penduduk usia 15 tahun ke atas dan angkatan kerja, kondisi ketenagakerjaan pada tahun 2009 masih lebih baik dibandingkan tahun sebelumnya. Pada bulan Agustus 2009 jumlah penduduk usia kerja (15 tahun ke atas) sebanyak 2.728.747 orang, dengan angkatan kerja sebanyak 2.123.588 orang. Dengan kondisi ini maka tingkat pengangguran terbuka (TPT) di Bali pada bulan Agustus 2009 sebesar 3,1 persen, menurun dibanding bulan yang sama tahun sebelumnya yang tercatat sebesar 3,3 persen.

Dari tabel diatas dapat disimpulkan bahwa telah terjadi perubahan angkatan kerja yang dari tahun ke tahun.

BAB III

PEMBAHASAN

3.1 Tenaga Kerja Pariwisata Bali

Penyediaan SDM Pariwisata saat ini berasal dari SMK, SMU, pendidikan tinggi dan balai latihan kerja. Bidang kejuruan pariwisata dan perhotelan diprogramkan pada dua jenis SMK yaitu SMK di mana bidang studi pariwisata dan perhotelan merupakan salah satu alternative yang ditawarkan SMK yang bersangkutan dan SMIP yang merupakan SMK khusus menawarkan bidang studi pariwisata dan perhotelan. Saat ini di Indonesia terdapat sekitar 700 SMK Negeri dan 3.000 SMK Swasta termasuk 75 buah SMIP dan SMK yang menawarkan pariwisata dan perhotelan (negeri dan swasta). Namun dari hal-hal tersebut menghasilkan suatu dampak baik dan buruk dari tenaga kerja pariwisata, seperti dampak krisis global.

Dampak krisis global mulai mengancam pariwisata Indonesia. Sekitar 20 persen tenaga kerja pariwisata terancam pemutusan hubungan kerja (PHK) pada tahun 2009. Demikian disampaikan Direktur Pusat Data Departemen Kebudayaan dan Pariwisata  Harry Waluyo di sela-sela acara UNWTO International Conference on Tourism Statistik di hotel Westin, Nusa Dua, Bali, Senin (30/3/2009). Berdasarkan data, jumlah tenaga kerja pariwisata baik pekerja langsung dan tidak langsung sebanyak 4,41 juta pada tahun 2007.

3. 2 Keunggulan Sumber Daya Manusia Bali dalam Pariwisata

Keunggulan tenaga kerja pariwisata bali dalam melakukan pekerjaannya harus ditingkatkan secara maksimal. Walaupun ada keunggulannya, namun wajib ditingkatkan. Keunggulan-keungulan tersebut meliputi :

1. Memiliki etika atau tata krama dalam bekerja yang baik yang menjadi dasar bagi suksesnya pelaksanaan tugas-tugasnya

2. Umumnya jujur dalam bekerja

3. Memiliki toleransi yang tinggi terhadap sesama teman kerjanya

4. Bersikap ramah dengan pihak-pihak yang dilayani

5. Selalu bersikap menolong terhadap semua pelanggan

6. Loyal atau setia terhadap organisasi dimana pun mereka bekerja

Dari temuan diatas adalah bahwa seluruh keunggulan yang disebutkan itu sesungguhnya bersumber dari kwalitas pribadi (personal qualities) dari karyawan yang bersangkutan.

3. 2. 1 Keunggulan tenaga Kerja Etnis Bali

Berdasarkan hasil-hasil analisis mengenai keunggulan tenaga kerja etnis bali yang bekerja dalam bidang pariwisata, hanya memiliki tiga keunggulan yang menonjol. Tiga keunggulan yang menonjol tersebut yaitu memiliki sikap persahabatan yang sangat tinggi, memiliki solidaritas yang tinggi terhadap teman kerja dan lingkungannya, dan mampu membina hubungan kerja yang baik terhadap manusia dan lingkungan kerjanya. Sedangkan tenaga kerja etnis bali yang menduduki peringkat manager hanya terletak pada suatu kemampuan yang dipersyaratkan. Keunggulan tersebut terletak pada penampilan pisik maupun kejiwaan yang dimilki.

3. 3 kelemahan sumber daya manusia

Disamping beberapa keunggulan sebagaimana diuraikan diatas, dalam sejumlah kemampuan yang menjadi persyaratan dari suatu jabatan, sumber manusia etnis bali ternyata tidak berbeda dengan apa yang diharapkan. Pada jabatan pelaksana (front liners) misalnya (1) taat atau disiplin dalam menjalankan tugas-tugasnya, (2) mudah beradaptasi dengan lingkungan kerjanya, (3) memiliki etos kerja yang tinggi dalam bekerja, (4) memiliki motivasi kerja yang tinggi, selalu bersikap tulus iklas dalam menjalankan tugas-tugasnya, (5) rajin dalam bekerja dan (6) mampu berkomunikasi yang baik dengan tenaga kerjanya. Sedangkan pada jenjang jabatan manager kemampuan kemampuan tidak berbeda dengan apa yang semestinya dapat dikerjakan oleh para manager misalnya meliputi (1) memiliki jiwa kewiraswastaan yang diperlukan bagi suksesnya usaha yang dijalankan, (2) mampu menjadi symbol atau panutan dimana tempat mereka bekerja, dan (3) bijaksana dalam mengambil keputusan.

 

BAB IV

Penutup

4. 1 Simpulan

Berdasarkan hasil analisis, maka :

1. Penyediaan SDM Pariwisata saat ini berasal dari SMK, SMU, pendidikan tinggi dan balai latihan kerja. Bidang kejuruan pariwisata dan perhotelan diprogramkan pada dua jenis SMK yaitu SMK di mana bidang studi pariwisata dan perhotelan merupakan salah satu alternative yang ditawarkan SMK.

2. Tenaga kerja etnis bali memiliki tiga keunggulan yang menonjol tersebut yaitu (1) memiliki sikap persahabatan yang sangat tinggi, (2) memiliki solidaritas yang tinggi terhadap teman kerja dan lingkungannya, dan (3) mampu membina hubungan kerja yang baik terhadap manusia dan lingkungan kerjanya.

4. 2 Saran

Partisipasi tenaga kerja harus dapat dibina dengan baik agar keamanan, kenyamanan, terjaga dengan baik agar tidak terjadinya PHK (pemutusan hubungan kerja).

I. Pendahuluan

Melalui komunikasi intrapribadi kita berbicara dengan diri sendiri, mengenal diri sendiri, mengevaluasi diri sendiri tentang ini dan itu, mempertimbangkan keputusan-keputusan yang akan diambil dan menyiapkan pesan-pesan yang akan kita sampaikan kepada orang lain. Melalui komunikasi antar pribadi kita berinteraksi dengan orang lain, mengenal mereka dan diri kita sendiri, dan mengungkapkan diri sendiri kepada orang lain. Apakah kepada pimpinan, teman sekerja, teman seprofesi, kekasih, atau anggota keluarga, melalui komunikasi antar pribadilah kita membina, memelihara, kadang-kadang merusak (dan ada kalangnya memperbaiki) hubungan pribadi kita.
Komunikasi juga berhubungan erat dengan informasi dan teknologi. Tanpa adanya komunikasi, informasi tidak dapat disampaikan. Penyampaian informasi tersebut dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara baik cara verbal maupun non-verbal. Cara verbal seseorang langsung menyampaikan informasi tersebut melalui bahasa langsung (bercakap-cakap) sedangkan non-verbal seseorang menyampaikan suatu informasi melalui bahasa tubuh. Berkaitan dengan teknologi, informasi dapat disampaikan melalu media cetak atau masa yang biasa dikenal melalui televisi, radio, internet, koran, dan lain-lain. Semakin canggih teknologi penyampaian informasi semakin cepat, dan jaman pun berubah bagai dunia di genggaman tangan. Contoh : seseorang yang berada di belahan bumi bagian barat, mengetahui kejadian apa yang terjadi di belahan bumi bagian timur, dan seluruh dunia pun mengetahuinya.
Teknologi internet atau yang biasa dikenal dengan situs google, berisikan banyak bahkan bermiliar-miliar informasi yang dapat diakses oleh siapa saja. Banyak informasi yang dapat dilihat, salah satunya informasi mengenai pariwisata. Para pelaku bisnis pariwisata mempergunakan banyak media untuk mempromosikan pariwisata di daerahnya. Melakukan promosi melalui internet merupakan cara gampang dan mudah untuk berpromosi, karena seluruh dunia dapat melihat dan menerima informasi tersebut. Oleh karena itu kini teknologi sudah semakin maju dan berkembang dalam melakukan suatu aktivitas, aktivitas pariwisata yang dapat mendatangkan banyak wisatawan untuk berkunjung ke suatu daerah.
II. Pembahasan
Pengertian Komunikasi
Pengertian komunikasi sudah banyak didefinisikan oleh banyak orang, jumlahnya sebanyak orang yang mendifinisikannya. Dari banyak pengertian tersebut jika dianalisis pada prinsipnya dapat disimpulkan bahwa komunikasi mengacu pada tindakan, oleh satu orang atau lebih, yang mengirim dan menerima pesan yang terdistorsi oleh gangguan (noise), terjadi dalam suatu konteks tertentu, mempunyai pengaruh tertentu, dan ada kesempatan untuk melakukan umpan balik.
Tujuan Komunikasi
Ada empat tujuan atau motif komunikasi yang perlu dikemukakan di sini. Motif atau tujuan ini tidak perlu dikemukakan secara sadar, juga tidak perlu mereka yang terlibat menyepakati tujuan komunikasi mereka. Tujuan dapat disadari ataupun tidak, dapat dikenali ataupun tidak. Selanjutnya, meskipun. teknologi komunikasi berubah dengan cepat dan drastis (kita mengirimkan surat elektronika, bekerja dengan komputer, misalnya) tujuan komunikasi pada dasarnya tetap sama, bagaimanapun hebatnya revolusi elektronika dan revolusi-revolusi lain yang akan datang. (Arnold dan Bowers, 1984; Naisbit.1984).

III. Informasi dan Teknologi
Pengertian
Teknologi Informasi dilihat dari kata penyusunnya adalah teknologi dan informasi. Secara mudahnya teknologi informasi adalah hasil rekayasa manusia terhadap proses penyampaian informasi dari bagian pengirim ke penerima sehingga pengiriman informasi tersebut akan:

  • lebih cepat

  • lebih luas sebarannya, dan

  • lebih lama penyimpanannya
IV. Pengaruh Komunikasi Informasi dan Teknologi Terhadap Pariwisata
Penggunaan teknologi informasi dalam menunjang system informasi membawa pengaruh terhadap hampir semua aspek dalam pengelolaan bisnis, termasuk dalam pengelolaan bisnis pariwisata, khususnya jasa penginapan atau akomodasi. Hotel sebagai salah satu jasa penginapan atau akomodasi juga telah mulai menerapkan teknologi dalam sistem informasi yang dimilikinya. Penggunaan teknologi system informasi sangat membantu operasional hotel. Penerapan teknologi sistem informasi pada hotel, hendaknya mempertimbangkan kemampuan pemakai sistem teknologi. Sehingga teknologi sistem informasi dapat dimanfaatkan secara optimal, sesuai
dengan tugas dan tanggung jawab sipemakai. Diharapkan, aplikasi teknologi sistem informasi baru dapat meningkatkan kinerja individual yang akan berdapak ke kinerja perusahaan. Keberhasilan aplikasi sistem informasi baru pada suatu perusahaan khususnya hotel, tergantung bagaimana sistem itu dijalankan, kemudahan sistem itu bagi para pemakainya, dan pemanfaatan teknologi yang digunakan.
Website Pariwisata
Pemanfaatan internet di dunia pariwisata dalam bentuk Website / Portal sangat beragam mulai dari sekadar pemberian layanan informasi dan promosi sampai layanan yang lebih kompleks misalnya : reservasi online (hotel, paket wisata, transportasi dll), sistem pembayaran online, pengelolaan data base pariwisata daerah dan proses interaksi dan transaksi lainnya.
Beberapa hal dari pemanfaatan internet untuk pariwisata antara lain :

  1. Komunikasi tidak mengenal batas ruang dan waktu , missal : orang Amerika yang ingin mencari informasi obyek wisata dan akomodasi di suatu daerah tertentu di Indonesia.

  2. Akses yang mudah karena dapat dilakukan dari rumah

  3. Menyediakan informasi sedetail mungkin : harga, lokasi, informasi sekitar, cuaca, atraksi, events, secara interaktif dan up to date.

  4. Jangkauan yang sangat luas ke seluruh dunia dan murah.

  5. Melawan ”bad publicity” tentang Indonesia misal : Indonesia dianggap tempat teroros dan kerusuhan sehingga orang takut berkunjung.

  6. Menambah kredibilitas suatu organisasi karena memiliki e-mail dan website.
Kehadiran internet terutama tersedianya website/ portal pariwisata yang handal, lengkap dan interaktif tentu sangat mendukung promosi tujuan wisata yang ada di suatu daerah, sebagai contoh : sebuah website pariwisata milik suatu pemda memuat suatu promosi perjalanan wisata ke daerah yang meliputi :

  • Lokasi obyek wisata (dimana, apa saja yang bisa dilihat)

  • Waktu yang dibutuhkan

  • Perkiraan biaya

  • Pendukung yang terkait (hotel, restoran, toko souvenir, sarana hiburan, atraksi wisata)

  • Saran souvenir yang perlu dibeli

  • Budaya lokal (adat istiadat, bahasa, kesenian dll)
Teknologi yang tersedia harus dipilih dengan tepat, terutama menyangkut jenis layanan wisata yang ditampilkan, untuk sekadar publikasi, maka cukuplah sebuah website yang memuat info pariwisata di sebuah daerah, berupa gambar/ foto-foto dan narasi serta informasi yang diberikan masih bersifat satu arah, hanya berisi penjelasan supaya masyarakatmengetahui (web prsence).
Sedangkan untuk layanan yang lebih kompleks dan rumit diperlukan teknoogi yang lebih “advance” misalnya : diperlukan adanya website yang interaktif dengan animasi flash, gambar dan link yang lengkap, sehingga calon customer bisa meminta suatu penjelasan secara lebih detail. Perlu ditambah pula menu semacam, jadwal trayek atau peta jalan interaktif sehingga memudahkan calon customer untuk bisa sampai di suatu tempat, perlu dipikirkan pula menu transaksi yang harus ada misalnya : reservasi hotel, nilai tukar mata uang, kamus, waktu/ jam, pembayaran online, layanan sms interaktif, interaktif voice response/ call center, dan lain-lain.
Supaya suatu website diminati oleh calon customer maka diperlukan beberapa hal sebagai berikut :

  1. Informasi harus di up date secara berkala (events, info baru, berita, artikel, gambar, film, animasi, dll)

  2. Suatu website juga harus responsif terhadap request dan pertanyaan (banyak yang tidak menjawab email) serta tanggap terhadap keiningan pengunjung dan komunikatif (memahami alasan mengapa audiens web mendarat di suatu website).

  3. Sesuaikan dengan target pembaca/ pengunjung dengancara penyampaian informasi (calon wisatawan asing membutuhkan informasi dalam bahasa Inggris/ atau bahasa asing lainnya dan dalam bahasa Indonesia).
Kendala
Beberapa kendala yang sering dihadapi oleh suatu Dinas Pariwisata di daerah untuk mengembangkan egovernment di bidang pariwisata adalah sebagai berikut:

  • Kesulitan utama secara teknis ada pada ketersediaan akses internet, serta peralatan komputer dan jaringan yang kurang memadai.

  • Secara non teknis kesulitan ada pada ketersediaan data (content) dari Dinas Pariwisata sendiri yang mana sangat membutuhkan kerjasama dan keterbukaan dari setiap bidang dan seksi yang ada, sehingga data dapat terintegrasi dengan baik.

  • Kemampuang SDM yang relatif masih rata-rata dan belum sampai pada tingkat yang mahir khususnya penguasaan jarirngan komputer dan internet.

  • Pariwisata berbasis TI belum menjadi ”minded” dari pimpinan daerah yang dimana pada beberapa daerah, Dinas Pariwisata masih ”dianggap” dinas yang ”kering” dan ”dihindari” oleh para pejabat
Egovernment merupakan aplikasi pemacu untuk memasarkan tujuan dan potensi wisata di daerah, zaman sedang berubah dan suka atau tidak suka semua harus berubah termasuk sektor pariwisata daerah.

BALI CONVENTION CENTRE
BICC1 Adalah venue yang sangat representative untuk berbagai kegiatan MICE. Sejak awal pendiriannya tahun 1991, BICC yang berdiri di pusat kawasan percontohan pengembangan pariwisata Bali ini memang telah dirancang sebagai venue bertaraf internasional. Memiliki 17 ruang meeting berkapasitas hingga 2.500 orang (theater style) ini kerap menjadi langganan sejumlah konferensi internasional. Sebut saja Konferensi PBB untuk perubahan iklam bulan Desember tahun 2007 yang menghadirkan ribuan delegasi dari 189 negara. Hamparan pasir putih nan berkilau terpantul cahaya matahari memang menjadikan kawasan ini begitu eksotik. Hanya di BICC lah satu-satunya convention centre yang terletak di pinggir pantai di Bali. Tak heran jika sejumlah delegasi yang pernah meeting di tempat ini membekaskan kerinduan untuk kembali. Memang tak lama berselang dari konferensi tersebut, sejumlah delegasi dari 140 negara yang tergabung dalam United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) atau konferensi PBB untuk pemberantasan masalah korupsi ini mengadakan konferensi di sini.
Lokasi tepat di pinggir pantai Nusa Dua yang terkenal bersih memang memberikan aura tersendiri bagi yang ingin mengadakan event..
